Team Manager Marketing Insights

Team Manager

Your day as Team Manager:

As a Team Manager you will be responsible for leading a team of 10-15 Research Managers and ensuring the work is done efficiently, with high quality and actionable results delivered for all marketing research projects within his/her team at the company. The Team Manager may be called upon to set up action plans for the more customized and complex studies, though the Team Manager’s intervention is often needed for some of their more standardized methods as well, such as concept testing, advertising testing, package testing, product testing, trackers, etc. The Team Manager consults with clients, active in business/ project development, reviews/edits proposals written by Sales, occasionally designs a survey and analysis plan, and assists in providing insightful, actionable reports to the clients.

Your responsibilities will be:

  • Provide consultation to clients and Sales regarding marketing research design and methodology to achieve the client’s business needs; review proposals.
  • Research Manager assignment and project workflow.
  • Coordinate new projects with Sales and act as an integral part in business development activities, such as opportunity pitches and proposal development.
  • Involved in pricing of overall projects related to work required in client service responsibilities.
  • Assist and sometimes lead global initiatives.
  • Serve as portfolio leader for planning, staffing, budgeting, and managing expenses.
  • Occasionally design marketing research studies.
  • Bring in the internal experts for consultation where appropriate.
  • Write questionnaires that meet the objectives of the study.
  • Learn how to build surveys of low complexity, using our proprietary tools and platform.
  • Review links prior to deployment and review initial deployment data.
  • Write clear, insightful, and actionable reports.
  • Present reports to clients on the phone or in-person, as requested.
  • Proactively identify client business needs and propose additional research projects to meet those needs.
  • Continually evaluate and recommend research methods when appropriate.
  • Initiate process improvements by leading the team involved, as needed.
  • Foster a positive environment of teamwork, while maintaining personal accountability.
  • Discuss changes in scope with Sales and/or clients as they arise.
  • Mentor less experienced Research Managers to develop research and client consultation competencies; review their questionnaires and reports.
  • Set standards for report writing and review reports for actionable insights.
  • Work within the context of a broader, global team and reinforce strong relationships across regions.

As Team Manager you have the following knowledge and experience:

  • BA/BS in Marketing, Quantitative Analysis or related field. MBA is a strong plus.
  • 8+ years of marketing research experience, ideally on the supplier side. Client marketing/ consumer insights a plus.
  • Experience with developing project design, proposal input, building questionnaires and writing reports.
  • Deep understanding of data analysis and how to turn data into insights.
  • Experience with managing multiple levels of research team personnel.
  • Experience with coaching and mentoring teams.
  • Strong knowledge of research methodologies (on Brand Engagement and Product Innovation), with the ability to provide senior-level consultation to sales or directly to clients, on complex marketing research designs.
  • Strong communication skills, oral and written, especially with clients and Sales; experienced and competent author and presenter of research insights to senior clients.
  • Attention to detail, coupled with being able to identify and articulate broad, strategic implications.
  • Able to oversee multiple marketing research projects and initiatives across a portfolio of business.
  • Creative and proactive approach to solving business issues.
  • Experience with effectively managing change in work environment.
  • Ideally having experience working across geographies and different cultures.
  • Experience with MS Excel, PowerPoint, and Word; use of SPSS and/or background in programming a strong plus.
  • Passion for research and “predicting people”.
  • Is able to express him-/herself perfectly in French and English, both verbally and in writing. Knowledge of any other additional languages is an advantage.
